Galapagos Tour Overview by Dates |
We were up early and Mabel got us to the airport and found our escort, Erica.
She accompanied us to the airport on San Cristobel Island, where our guide Pepe
took over and got us on board the Flamingo I, our home for the next week. The
accommodations are a bit tight, but it’s all very comfortable. After lunch, we
spent some time finding wetsuits and swim fins to fit,
then had an evacuation drill. We put the equipment to good use, snorkeling at
one of the beaches nearby on San Cristobel. We saw turtles, sand dollars,
stingrays and numerous other kinds of fish. Sea lions were everywhere, and the
water was cool enough that we were glad to have the wetsuits. Back on board we
were served a snack and juice, rinsed our equipment and suits and finished
unpacking. Pepe suggested the sundeck as the best point to see The Sleeping
Lion (or “Kicker”) Rock as we cruised around it. Then we proceeded to another
small island where we anchored. Along the way some frigate birds cruised above
the sundeck, putting on quite a show. We saw boobies and various other birds as
well as turtles in the water. Dinner was lovely and we all retired early.
